ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hi, I'm Yolanda
I'm a business strategist and single mom of two boys in Durham, NC. I built Play Hall Pass out of over a decade of family play traditions — starting with a weekly practice I call Fun Fridays.
By day, I run a management consulting practice helping mission-driven leaders build systems that last. I bring the same lens to family life: build the structure the protects what matters, and leave the rest alone.
This book is what I wish I'd had at the beginning. It's also for the aunts, uncles, mentors, and other trusted adults who show up for young people. Family takes many shapes now, and play belongs in all of them.
Why I Created The Play Hall Pass
I wasn't the naturally playful parent
When my boys were little, I wasn't the parent who naturally knew how to play with them.
Then life got really hard after their dad and I separated,
just from the overwhelm of it all,
so I went back to how I enjoyed play at younger ages to climb out... and I brought my boys with me.
But I got one thing wrong for a long time: I ran the whole thing. My rules, my way. It worked for a while, but it was also heavy for all of us.
Now I've built the thing I wish I had.
